The school is owned and operated by the Ohio Conference of the Mennonite Church, is accredited by the State of Ohio and is a member of the Mennonite Education Agency. It began operation in the fall of 1961 with 156 students in grades 9-12. Central Christian School now serves students from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12.

STATISTICS

Current enrollment at Central Christian School is 266.

The student body is represented by 69 congregations, 28 Ohio school districts, and 12 international students from South Korea and China.

Seventy-five percent of Central Christian graduates attend college, and 5 percent of the remaining graduates are engaged in some form of service or mission work.

Our alumni uphold a strong service tradition; more than forty percent have served in organized church service such as long- and short-term missions and pastorates, and many more are actively involved in their local congregations.

SPIRITUAL LIFE

Daily chapels are planned by students in Campus Ministries along with the faculty advisor, for grades 5-12. Elementary school chapels are held each morning.

Biblical principles are incorporated into all aspects of student life. Bible courses are required throughout our students’ education, as well as courses in church history.

ACADEMICS

Students excel in academics, consistently averaging in the top percentages of tests including Ohio Graduation Test, ACT and SAT. Outside of the classroom, students may participate in Science Olympiad; American High School Math Exam; Math Counts; Tests of Engineering, Math and Science (TEAMS); Spelling Bee; and Power of the Pen. Many past teams have advanced to state and national levels of competition.

A tutoring program serves students according to their individual needs. An NILD (National Institute of Learning Disabilities) tutoring program is also available, at an additional cost, for students in grades 1-8.

MUSIC

Seventy-three percent of high school students are involved in the music program. The music department sponsors Chorale, Concert Choir, Varsity Singers, Junior Strings, String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, string quartets, and individual music lessons during the school day for both vocal and instrumental students. All students in third and fourth grades take violin lessons.

Concert Choir, Chorale, Varsity Singers, and other music groups have earned numerous superior ratings in district and state competitions. The Concert Choir travels to the annual Mennonite Education Agency Music Festival to participate in the choir of more than 400 voices. Our instrumental musicians participate in the orchestra at the MEA Regional Orchestra Festival.

Concerts are held in our Performing Arts Center several times a year and Varsity Singers perform for numerous church groups and special events, as well as putting on the Madrigal Feast, a spectacular medieval Christmas festival with food, drama, and music.

Two major dramas are performed annually.

Several art courses are offered, including painting, sculpture and ceramics.
