Our Faculty

Central Christian provides a learning experience infused with and guided by faith in Jesus Christ.

Innovative, highly trained teachers licensed by the State of Ohio challenge students to integrate “book learning” with faith in preparation for life. Lessons are often hands-­on as teachers encourage students of all ability levels to explore and discover. Among our faculty,

Beun, Henry
HS Bible

Henry Beun is married to Julie (Neuenschwander ’76). They have four children and six grandchildren. Henry is in his 30th year of teaching high school Bible at Central. He is a graduate of Hesston College, Malone College, and Malone Graduate School in Youth Ministry, Christian Education, and Theological and Biblical Studies. His hobbies include being with family, reading, gardening, working in his orchard, running, and walking. Henry’s personal mission is to engage and learn with students in biblical studies, theology and Christian discipleship. 

Bilderback, Shelly
Kindergarten/Grade 1 Teacher

Shelly lives in Orrville with her husband Ray. They have two grown daughters. After student teaching in two multi-age classrooms, she graduated from the University of Akron with a Masters in Literacy. Shelly has worked at Central for over 15 years. In her free time she enjoys hiking an camping. 

Bischoff, Lisa
Grades K-1

Lisa is a graduate of Ashland University and teaches and nurtures her smarties in kindergarten and first grade at Central Christian. She and her husband, Paul, reside in Apple Creek and have three daughters, Hallie, Macy and Lexi. In Lisa's free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, attending her daughters' school events, scrapbooking, cooking and staying young at heart by taking Disney vacations. 

Bontrager, Deb
Grades 2-3
Deb Bontrager is a graduate of Goshen College. She teaches 2nd and 3rd grade at CCS. She is married to Merv and lives in Smithville. They have two sons, Weston ('15 alumnus), Jacob, who attends Central, and a daughter, Kaitlyn, who teaches at Central. Deb's favorite activities in her spare time are to spend time with her family, attend school events, fellowship with friends, play piano, read, bake, and travel.
Bontrager, Kaitlyn
MS Language Arts, Power of the Pen, Grades 4-5 Computer, MS Speech, MS Drama

Kaitlyn Bontrager is a 2007 graduate of CCS and a 2011 graduate of Eastern Mennonite University. She teaches Language Arts to grades six through eight. Kaitlyn enjoys traveling, reading, singing, spending time outdoors, and making memories with friends and family. 

Conrad, Kristen
Administrative Assistant

Kristen and her husband, Ryan, reside in Orrville and have three daughters. Kelsey and Gretchen have graduated and Molly attends Central. During her spare time, Kristen enjoys sewing, baking and reading. 

Detweiler-­Breckbill, Jill
ES Art, Music Accompanist, Campus Ministries

Jill Detweiler Breckbill is a graduate of Goshen College and is married to Bruce (former CCS faculty). She teaches art to students in grades K-­8. She also coordinates Central's chapels, leads Campus Ministries and Compassion Club, and serves as music department accompanist. In her spare time, Jill enjoys going to estate auctions, architectural salvage, creating things, and spending time with her family. 

Dudack, Lara
ES and MS Instrumental Music, HS String Music, Heartland Strings

Lara is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. She currently performs with the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and is assistant principal viola of the Cleveland Pops. When she's not "gigging," she's either spending time with her family or napping. Lara enjoys gardening and furniture thrift shopping. 

Dutcher, Debora
HS Intervention Specialist, ELL Coordinator, Intensive English II Teacher

Deb earned her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and graduate endorsement as a Diverse Needs Strategist with Concentration in Special Education from Eastern Mennonite University. Her goal is to complete her Teaching English as a Second Language Certification and Restorative Justice in Education Endorsement by 2018. Deb's passion is creating self-learners and capturing students' undaunted fortitude. In her spare time, Deb enjoys heirloom sewing, gardening, wilderness canoeing, biking, reading and creating memories with her family. 

Gerber, Andrew
Algebra II, Business

Andy Gerber teaches high school math and business courses at CCS. He resides in Kidron.

Gundy, Nathan
English I & III, Yearbook, Guitar

Nate Gundy enjoys teaching a variety of courses, from high school English, journalism and guitar to mini­terms on mechanics and backpacking. He and his wife, Jessica, have been discovering the blessings of parenting with their sons, Caleb and Owen. Outside of teaching, Nate is an avid runner, soccer coach, home renovator, and Volvo mechanic. 

Hamsher, Kristina
Grade 4

Kristina Hamsher grew up in Staunton, Virginia and graduated from Eastern Mennonite University. She lives in Kidron with her husband, Matt Hamsher (pastor of Longenecker Mennonite Church) and their two daughters, Carrie and Andrea who both attend Central. In addition to being the 4th grade homeroom teacher, Kristina teaches 5th grade language arts and co-leads the after school spring science club for grades 4 and 5. 

Some of her favorite things to do are reading, spending time with family and friends, and taking hikes with her family. 

Haven, Wendy
Auxiliary Clerk, Tutor for grades 4-8

Wendy ('89 alumnus of CCS) and her husband Darrell (principal at Walnut Creek and Winesburg Elementary Schools) are both graduates of Malone College. They live near Wooster with their two children, Makenna, a student at Moody Bible Institute and Gage, a student at Central. Wendy enjoys Darrell's mystery dates, flower and vegetable gardening, summer coffee and Bible study Monday mornings with Makenna, watching Gage's sports and music events, essential girl time with her small group, and spending time with her friends and extended family.

Haver, Val
MS Intervention Specialist

Val Haver is a graduate of The College of Wooster. Her three children are all Central graduates (Moriah Steiner ’06, Hannah, ’09 and Isaac ’12). Val works as Intervention Specialist for grades 5-­8. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, hiking, visiting historical places, and baking with her granddaughter Gracie. One interesting fact about Val is that she was baptized in the Jordan River in Israel. 

Hostetler, Angela

Angela works in the cafeteria part-time and has four boys who attend Central. They also host an exchange student.  Angela loves to cook and bake. Her family also enjoys swimming and bike riding.

Hostetler, Nancy
Nancy is a 1974 graduate of Central and married to her high school sweetheart, Dale. She enjoys gardening, baking, crafting and quilting.  They have two children who also graduated from Central, Diane (01) and Greg (04), and a daughter-in-law, Rachel (Thompson)(04).  
Howells, Curtis
HS History/Church History, MS/ES PE, Tutor

Curt Howells teaches high school social studies/history, Lifetime Sports (high school P.E.) and elementary school P.E. (grades K-4). As coach, he has led Central’s middle school soccer team to four consecutive winning season. Curt is married to Delight (‘03) and has two children. When he’s not busy teaching or coaching, Curt can usually be found with his family, playing soccer, biking, playing disc golf, or enjoying nature. Curt graduated from Salem High School in 2003 and Malone University in 2007.

Jaquet, Jolene
AP Biology, Zoology

Jolene and her husband Scott are 2001 graduates of CCS. Jolene earned a B.S. in Biology Education and a Master’s in Teacher as Leader. She is currently attending Mississippi State University in pursuit of an M.S. in Biology. Jolene teaches part­time so she can spend more time at home with her preschool daughter. She enjoys photography, scrapbooking, reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends. 

Jeanne Zimmerly Jantzi

Jeanne Zimmerly Jantzi returned to Ohio to serve as Superintendent after 24 years of Mennonite Central Committee leadership in Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Thailand. She has a passion for the global church and for building relationships and connections across differences. She loves spending time with people of all ages and cultures. Jeanne enjoys learning, teaching, and organizing. She and her husband, Dan, raised their three sons internationally while on assignment with Mennonite Central Committee. They have two daughters-in-law and two grandsons. She and her husband spend their free time restoring their early 1800s two story log cabin. They attend Orrville Mennonite Church where Jeanne grew up.

Kindbom, Jen
English I & II, Themes in Literature

Jen Kindbom teaches high school English and directs plays at Central. She is enthusiastic about developing projects to help students become confident, creative writers. Her book, CADABRA, was published by Cascadia Publishing House in 2015 and her chapbook, A Note on the Door, by Finishing Line Press in 2011. Her poems have appeared in print and online journals and anthologies. Jen grew up on the west side of Cleveland, studied at the College of Wooster and Ashland University and currently resides in Wooster with her family.

Kooker, Zach
Athletic Director

Zach Kooker and his wife Mary are both Central alumni. Zach also coaches baseball, oversees athletic field maintenance and teaches Industrial Arts. When he isn’t working or playing with his kids, you might find him hunting, woodworking, or playing sports. 

Lowe, Christina
Enrollment and Marketing Director

Christina and her husband reside in Dalton with their two children Elaina ('17 CCS alumnus) and John, who will graduate from Central in 2018. Christina enjoys many aspects of her position at Central, but she finds energy in being able to introduce Central to potential families and set them on the journey of joining a community of people who will become an integral part of their children's formation in Christ as well as their academic and social development.

During Christina's free time, she enjoys cooking, hosting guests at their home, hiking, fishing and traveling with her family. She finds joy in her favorite Bible verse, Romans 8:28: And we know that all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 

Martin, Craig
High School Principal, Guidance

Craig is a 1991 Central Christian graduate. He received a Bachelors of Science from Eastern Mennonite University in 1995 and a Masters of Science in Education Administration from Shenandoah University in 2006. He has taught in both middle school and high school and served in administrative roles since 1995. Craig also serves as Varsity Boys' Basketball Coach at CCS. Craig currently resides in Wooster with his wife Krista and their two children. 

McMullen, Karla
Music Department Secretary

Karla graduated with a B.A. in Music Education from Goshen College and is an alumnus of CCS. She and her husband, Matt, reside in Hartville. Their three children have all graduated from college leaving Karla time to sing with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. Karla enjoys giving voice lessons at Central, along with her duties of music department secretary. In her time off, she enjoys reading and birding. 

Miller, Elaine
MS Science and Physical Education

Elaine Miller is a 1980 Central graduate and went on to receive her BS from Eastern Mennonite University. She currently teaches middle school Science and Physical Education. She also serves as advisor for Snow Club, Archery Club, Robotics Club, and middle school STUCO (Student Council). Elaine is married to Ben, a Holmes County native. Together they have three children; Jeptha ('11) married to Alyssa Rychener, Elsa ('12) and Anna ('15). Elaine enjoys quilting and outdoor activities in her free time. 

Miller, Russell
Maintenance Director

Russell Miller serves as maintenance director, and transportation assistant at Central. He and his wife Mary have three children. When he is not at work or doing volunteer maintenance at his church, he loves to spend time with his children and watch their athletic events. Russell also enjoys woodworking, antiquing, hiking and fishing. 

Mullet, Sara

Sara Mullet is married to Dave and lives in Apple Creek. She has six children, four of whom are Central alumni, and two who currently attend Central. In her free time, Sara likes to visit her grandchildren in Kentucky, garden, and attend her son's sporting events. 

Nussbaum, Don
HS Social Studies

Don Nussbaum is in his 35th year at Central where he teaches AP American Government & Politics, U.S. History and Church History. Don and his wife Ellen have two adult children, Elena and Andrew, who are both CCS graduates. Don enjoys biking, walking, playing tennis, reading, and following British Premier League soccer. 

Otto, Lisa
HS Math

Lisa Otto (’86) teaches Grades 9 and 10 Math (Geometry and Algebra I). She also serves as High School Girls Basketball Coach, STUCO (Student Council) Advisor, and sophomore class sponsor. Lisa’s favorite season is summer, when she can enjoy tennis and watersports with her family. Lisa is married to Joel (’86) and they have two children who currently attend CCS. Their two eldest sons are alumnus of CCS. 

Peters, Lindsay
Preschool Teacher - Main Campus

Lindsay is a Central alumnus ('11) and spent much of her high school experience working with the "Smarties" in Mrs. B's kindergarten classroom before attending Malone University. Lindsay was an Intervention Specialist for third graders the two years prior to returning to CCS to teach preschool. She now lives down the road from CCS with her husband, Grant Peters, and their dog, Moseby. Lindsay is passionate about serving, spending quality time with others, and she loves to cook, craft, exercise and teach!

Raber, Zach
5th Grade

Zach Raber is a graduate of Kent State University and is married to Natalie (Lorenzo). He and his wife have two boys, Jackson and Hudson. Zach is the 5th grade homeroom teacher and teaches 4th grade mathematics at CCS. In his spare time, Zach enjoys hunting, sports, woodworking, and the outdoors.

Risser, Dave
HS Science and Math

Dave Risser is married to Doris, who is also on staff. He studied physics and math at Eastern Mennonite College and earned a M.Ed. from Malone University. Dave teaches Pre­calculus, AP Calculus, Calculus, AP Physics, Physics, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and AP Statistics. Dave also coaches Science Olympiad and TEAMS and is the adviser for National Honor Society. When he’s not at school, Dave enjoys gardening, skiing, cooking/baking and reading. 

Schag, Mandi
Elementary School Intervention Specialist

Mandi graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Intervention Specialist K-12. She lives outside Wooster with her husband Jason with their two children, Rilee and Grant. In her free time, Mandi likes to watch her children participate in athletic events and make memories with her family and friends. 

Schrock, Von
HS Science

Von has been a science instructor at Central for over 20 years. In addition to science instruction, Von has led a Marine Biology mini-term to the Florida Keys for the past 16 years, and is the current boys varsity basketball assistant coach. Von lives outside of Kidron, with his wife, Rita and four children, Aubrey, Corbin, Logan, and Kaden. Von continues to enjoy the daily interaction with students and the energy they bring to the classroom.

Seymour, Allison
5-­12 World Languages

Allison Seymour has taught a wide variety of courses during her career at CCS. She currently teaches German, Spanish, and middle exploratory classes and is a Heart of Central advisor for the freshman class. Allison and her husband Bill have two sons, Gregory and Alexander. She loves to read and travel and learn new things. An interesting fact about Allison is that she spent her junior year of college at Heidelberg Universitat, Germany and played cello in the university orchestra. 

Shue, Tim
MS Choral Music, HS Choral Music

Tim Shue has been teaching vocal music at Central for over 25 years. He is a native of Kansas and is married to Central alumnus, Jennifer (Swartzentruber). They have three daughters that attend Central. 

Tim directs the 7-12 vocal ensembles including the performance choirs, Concert Choir and Varsity Singers. He has led a wide variety of mini-terms at Central including mosaics, woodcarving, Foxfire, and birding adventures to far-flung states like Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Colorado, Texas, and Ontario. 

In his spare time, Tim directs an area-wide men's ensemble, Sonnenberg Station, and is a member of the band Honeytown. His hobbies include paying fiddle, wood carving, and enjoying nature.

Steiner, Alex
MS Math, MS PE

Alex is a 2008 graduate of Central Christian and also a graduate of Hesston College and Bluffton University. Alex enjoys coaching, working with his hands and interacting with students as they bring energy and excitement to the classroom.

Steiner, Heidi
HS Art

Heidi Steiner is a 2008 graduate of Central Christian. She is married to Alex Steiner and they reside in Kidron. She earned her A.A. degree at Hesston College in 2010 and B.A. in Art Education at Bluffton University in 2012. After graduating, Heidi spent time teaching on the Hopi Reservation in Northeast Arizona. Heidi loves to paint, cook, camp, travel and spend time with family and friends when she is not teaching.

Taylor, Joyce
ES and MS Principal

Joyce Taylor and her husband, Ed, are both Central alumni. Joyce is principal for preschool­grade 8, curriculum director, and special education director. She enjoys her four grandchildren, gardening, and reading. 

Tighe, Emily
Intervention Specialist

Emily is a 2006 alumnus of Central Christian School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Asbury University. She is married to Jake and has two young daughters , Kylie and Piper. Emily's favorite memories from attending CCS as a student include: mini-term, playing sports, science classes and senior trip. She still spends time with her friends more than a decade after graduating. 

Troyer, Bob
MS Social Studies, Bible

A decade after graduating from Central in 1981, Bob Troyer returned to teach middle school social studies and Bible. He and his wife Leora, have enjoyed watching their three sons grow up at Central, participating in a variety of academic, musical, and athletic activities. Bob enjoys tending his bees and chickens, his morning walks to school, and drinking coffee with his friends. 

Tschiegg, Stacie
Dean of Students

Stacie earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from Heidelberg College and a Masters of Arts in Educational Clinical Counseling from Malone University. She has experience working in the classroom as a teacher and working in the community as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Stacie lives in Orrville with her husband Steve. They have three children, Alex (in College at Grove City), Jordan and Megan (senior and sophomore at Central). In her free time, Stacie enjoys working in her yard, riding horses and spending time with family and friends. 

Weaver, Bonnie
ES and MS Choral Music, MS and HS Instrumental Music

Bonnie started teaching instrumental music at Central Christian in 2002. She earned her bachelors degree in music education from The Ohio State University and did some of her undergraduate work at Dana School of Music. She lives in Beach City with her husband, Nelson. Together they have three children, Garret, a 2010 CCS alumni and 2014 Malone University graduate and twins Emily and Josh, both 2014 CCS graduates. Bonnie enjoys spending time with her family, riding horses and gardening. The family attends Longenecker Mennonite Church.

Weaver, Sara
Grades 2­-3

Sara Weaver teaches 2nd and 3rd grades at CCS. She graduated from Bluffton University and earned a Master’s in Reading from the University of Akron. In her spare time, Sara plays volleyball on a church team and enjoys spending time with friends and family. During summer break she likes to work in the garden, read, and travel with friends. 

Williams, Benita
Algebra II, HS Tutor, Intensive English I

A graduate of Bluffton University in English and Social Psychology Education, Benita teaches resource and freshman English. Married to Pastor Ron, a graduate of EMS, they have two adult children; John, a Software Engineer and Roberta, an English major. Benita enjoys cooking, reading, writing, and interpreting dreams and she walks, bikes, and lifts weights to counterbalance these sedentary hobbies. She and Ron enjoy hosting international students.

Woods, Christal
Preschool Teacher - Berlin Campus

Christal Woods teaches preschool. She is a Central alumnus and is married to Mark Woods. She is mother to three boys and enjoys reading, playing games with her kids, and baking in her spare time.
