November Greetings from Jeanne

November 13, 2017

Dear Central Christian Community,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  This past week the middle school and high school students heard Pastor Kevin Himes share his own experience of the life changing power of gratitude.  In this Thanksgiving month, I thank God for this school and this community committed to excellence and care and following Christ.   From Philippians 1:

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus… And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness.

I am thankful for opportunities to walk laps on crisp Fall mornings with the elementary school students proudly wearing their new pedometers.  They count their cumulative steps and have almost reached their initial goal of one million steps.  Research shows that this outdoor activity improves their ability to learn.  I observe that it raises the spirits of all who participate.

Our whole school welcomed 66 pastors from 41 churches and 12 denominations on Pastor Appreciation Day.  During the Pastors’ Breakfast, pastors had a chance to spend time visiting and learning to know their counterparts in this area.  Middle School, Elementary, and High School students spoke words of their appreciation for their pastors, who also visited in classrooms and shared lunch with their students.  I am grateful that this school can be a “Central” meeting place for pastors across this school community and that the school, families, and churches can work together in the faith formation of CCS students.

We rejoice with the Cross Country, Girls Soccer, and Volleyball teams who have completed their OHSAA postseason tournament experiences. The Girls Varsity Volleyball team finished the regular season as the Co Mid-Buckeye Conference League Champions. The Girls Soccer team finished the regular season as the Mid-Buckeye Conference League Champions. Middle School boys won the Ohio Christian School Athletic Association Junior High Soccer State Championship.  The Boys Varsity Soccer team advanced to the final four in the State with the enthusiastic support of our school community.

Many students had the opportunity to perform in Fine Arts events in these past weeks.  The Prelude and Dessert Concert in October showcased the work of Heartland Strings, Jazz Band, Strings Ensemble, Winds Ensemble, Full Orchestra, Chorale, Concert Choir, Varsity Singers and Jubilance.  Students and directors devoted many hours to bring together these performances so early in the school year.  The Fall drama, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, brought the school community together in support of our student actors. A total of 38 students had the opportunity to be a part of the production.  Drama provides a unique avenue for expression, collaboration and creativity for students.

Our school continues to pray and act on behalf of our sister school in Puerto Rico, Academia Menonita Betania.  Their buildings and learning materials were severely damaged in Hurricane Maria.  Students and faculty sent over 100 cards of encouragement and the elementary school and Campus Ministries are working to raise funds to help them rebuild.  Together with all the Mennonite Schools across the USA, our shared goal is to raise $100,000.

Thank you for being a part of the Central Christian School community.  Thank you for continuing to pray:

  1. For the 38 students, two teachers, two bus drivers, and two chaperones on the Orchestra Festival trip to Sarasota Christian School in Florida.  They will be traveling home today, Nov 13, and will arrive tomorrow, Nov. 14.
  2. With gratitude for the final wrap-up of a successful Community Service Day fundraiser and for the future work of the Auction Committee.
  3. For wisdom and direction for the Administration and Board as we take on a process of community listening for strategic planning for the future of Central Christian School.
  4. For teachers working at continuous improvement through professional development and team collaboration.
  5. For our sister school in Puerto Rico.
  6. For elementary, middle school, and high school students, faculty and staff that our “love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight”.
