Kindergarten at Central Christian School

Kindergarten is an exciting season of growth. For many families, kindergarten is their child's first school experience. For others, it's a special time of transition after preschool. As you consider your options for a kindergarten school, you know what’s important:

A program that builds strong academic foundations.
Teachers and mentors who instill and apply the Word of God.
A school culture where your child will be seen and celebrated.

At Central Christian School, we deeply value what matters to parents like you. Our kindergarten program is built to provide a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered environment where your child can learn, explore and grow. Discover here what we offer:

Learning Environment:

Igniting a Love of Learning in a Christ-Centered Atmosphere

As a parent, you know that environment matters. Even at this early stage in life, children thrive best when they're nurtured to develop their unique, God-given gifts.

Central Christian School's kindergarten program emphasizes individualized instruction to meet every child's needs. We encourage teachers to identify each student's strengths and learning styles, which allows kindergarteners to thrive through:

Active learning. Students are inspired to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually through hands-on activities that spark curiosity and a love for learning. They master subjects by spending time in fun-filled learning centers that target specific skills (reading, writing, math, and more). In addition, we have whole group and small group targeted learning, where children develop creativity, collaboration, and social skills.

Fostering a love for God. Beyond academics, understanding biblical truths deepens a child's love for God. Reading the Bible, chapel time, memorizing verses, and modeling Christ-centered values are some of the many ways we encourage kindergartners in their walk with Jesus.

Differentiated instruction. Every child has a unique learning style — and we recognize the need for an approach that suits their distinct strengths. Your child will have teachers that  implement differentiated instruction in lesson plans and center activities to cultivate a deep interest and joy in learning.

Spaces to explore and grow. Kindergartners enjoy free play and develop their gross motor skills at the Discovery Center, while the beach-themed classroom sparks their imagination as they read, talk with friends, or do their work.

Academic Foundations Built To Prepare Kindergartners for Life

Whether this is your child's first school experience or they are coming from preschool, it's important to provide the right amount of challenge in learning. The small class sizes at CCS ensure every child can access their teacher for support, while providing an optimal balance of individual, small group, and whole class instruction. Problem-solving, creativity, and cooperative learning are well-integrated, so your child will develop essential life skills that will equip them for kindergarten and beyond.

Kindergarten core subjects include:

  • Reading
  • Writing (handwriting, creative-opinion, expository)
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Art, physical education, vocal music, library, German, Beginning Keyboarding, and SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) also provide opportunities for your child to explore their passions and interests.

Intentional Use of Technology

At Central Christian School, we believe that the thoughtful use of technology plays a role in enriching students' learning. Throughout the week, Kinders utilize iPads to learn language arts and math lessons in special programs such as IXL and Raz Kids. We also intentionally use technology to connect with parents — teachers post pictures of students in action through Google Classroom, where families can view and enjoy.

An Emphasis on Safety

We understand how important it is for you as parents to have peace of mind as you entrust your child into our care. School safety priorities include staff background checks, locked doors, visitor check-ins, and seasonal emergency drills. Your kindergartner will find emotional comfort and support from teachers who model kindness, respect, and Christ-centered values in every classroom

What is your favorite thing about teaching kindergarten?

“Kindergarten is where it all begins! These littles come in with excitement and curiosity! I love to help nurture those qualities and watch them grow. It's amazing to see the change (academic, social, and emotional) in just nine weeks! I get to spend my days with these sweeties who are unique and talented in many ways. We have fun learning and encouraging one another. It's a privilege to have these Kinders at the start of their education. I want to bless them with my very best and plant that seed of a lifelong love of learning.”

“We chose CCS Kindergarten because of the Christ-centered education in a caring and nurturing environment. Piper has thrived both academically and socially. She blows me away with all of the new things she is learning. She is excited to come to school each day and speaks fondly of her classmates and teachers.”

Emily Tighe, CCS parent
